4 Magnificent Machine Code Games (alternative version) (ZXZ81 MIA)

  1. This is quite interesting, but also pretty misleading! I've done a bit of investigating, and here's what I've found:

    1. The '4 Magnificent Machine Code Games' cassette inlay is totally irrelevant, and bears no relation to the contents of the cassette itself.

    2. Side A is a complete copy of 'ZX81 Micro Computer Software', as you note. It's not QUITE identical to the copy you published recently, but it's very similar. The differences are in programs 2 (ZXBS), 5 (PHONE BOOK), 9 (second copy of PHONE BOOK) and 11 (ATLANTIS). But any differences in these programs are only tiny, and are probably not significant. All other programs are comletely identical between the tapes.

    3. Side B is a copy of 'Sorcerer's Island' from Side B of Fantasy Games by Psion/Sinclair. It lacks the initial title screen credits from the original Psion release (which were also missing from the Sinclair reissue), and it also lacks the CRC loading check (which was added to the Sinclair reissue but absent from the original Psion release). Apart from those small differences, it appears to be identical.

So, why half of a Psion/Sinclair release is present on a CP-Software tape is unclear, but sadly it's not a particular interesting or unusual retrieval.

    1. Thank you Richard, in my opinion, side B was not on the original release. Probably, the author, just recorded after buying the tape.
